Okay so i'm having my sweet 16 at a cabin on jan 23.. i kinda wanna have a winter luau theme i'm going too have a big bonfire and invite tons of people but i need ideas on..
what too..
Eat?
Drink?
Decoration?
What should the guest wear?(keep in mind its outside in the winter)
And anything else i need too get or do..
EAT: Grilled chicken skewers (chunks of chik breast, pineapples, cherries & limes alternated), firebaked potatoes, and a tossed salad with a honey lime dressing (you can get the recipe online). Also, get tropical toothpicks and on each put a pineapple chunk, maraschino cherry, then another pineapple chunk.
DRINK:
Warm Orange Juice Colada
Ingredients
•2 cups orange juice
•2 cups water
•2 tbs. cornstarch
•1 cinnamon stick
•4 tbs. sugar
Procedure
1.Dissolve the cornstarch in one cup of cool water. Mix well to ensure that all the cornstarch is dissolved, or the colada will be lumpy.
2.Add the rest of the water, the orange juice, sugar and cinnamon stick to the cornstarch mixture. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
3.Continue stirring as the mixture boils for 2-3 minutes, or until it reaches the desired consistency.
4.Serve warm. Makes six servings.
Variation: Any fruit juice can be substituted for the orange juice. Some to try are pineapple, strawberry or passion fruit. Adjust sugar as needed.
DECORATION:
colorful hanging paper lanterns, tiki torches around the table, brightly flowered tablecloth with grass/rafia skirts pinned around the edges to form a table skirt. You can also put shells down the middle of the table, along with votive candles. Further accessorize with fresh pineapples and coconuts (uncut, of course). Fake greenery would also look great mixed in with these other things....just hunt something with large leaves and a tropical feel.
ATTIRE:
Guests could wear oversized hawaiian shirts, grass skirts, coconut bras over their other clothing. Also, flower leis are a must, as they will go over coats, sweaters, etc. You can even announce in your invitation that there will be a contest for the ugliest hawaiian shirt if you wanted.
Burn a CD of Hawaiian music and let it play throughout.
Play limbo and a hula hoop game. Even teenagers have fun with these.
